Brett Edward Deledio is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Greater Western Sydney Giants in the Australian Football League (AFL). He previously played for the Richmond Football Club from 2005 to 2016, and he was the club's vice-captain from 2013 to 2016.

GWS Giants veteran Brett Deledio announces AFL retirement

Injury-plagued GWS veteran Brett Deledio has announced he will retire at the end of the AFL season.

Deledio has battled with a succession of soft tissue injuries in his three seasons with the Giants and is currently sidelined by a calf issue, but he remains hopeful of a return for the finals. Deledio said he was "really proud" of what he'd been able to achieve in his career, thanking both past and present Richmond staff and players.

"I'm so proud to have played 243 games in the yellow and black and to have achieved two best and fairest and two All Australians there," he said. "I played my best footy as a Tiger but I'm so grateful for the opportunity the Giants presented me at the end of 2016. "It's no secret I needed a fresh start and to be able to do that at a new club like the Giants has been unbelievable for me.

"I would have loved to have played a lot more footy in the orange guernsey, but it wasn't to be and it taught me the influence I can have on the group without being out on the field. "I'd like to thank everyone at the Giants, particularly the medical staff, for their support over this period."The past few years have been really tough, both on and off the field. But it showed me that football isn't everything and I'm really looking forward to the next chapter of my life with my family."

Brett Deledio was born on 18 April 1987 in Kyabram, Victoria. He holds Australian nationality and his birth sign is Aries. He was born to his father Wayne Deledio and mother Judy Deledio. He also has a brother named Matthew Deledio and his birth name is Brett Edward Deledio. Deledio began playing competitive football at age 8 and In 2003 Deledio was a joint winner of the Kevin Sheehan Medal as the best player in the under-16 national championships.

Regarding his education, Deledio attended Kyabram High School. Later he enrolled at Caulfield Grammar School to complete his year 12 studies in 2005.   • Deledio started his professional career being selected by the Richmond Football Club with the first overall pick in the 2004 National Draft.
  • He made his debut at age 17 years in Round 1 the following year, in a Richmond loss to Geelong.
