Avril Lavigne is a Canadian singer, songwriter, actress, designer, and philanthropist. She is famous for her hit singles "Complicated" and "Girlfriend". Her other hit singles are "Sk8er Boi", "I’m with You", "My Happy Ending", and "Nobody’s Home" among others. She released her debut studio album, "Let Go", in 2002 which became the best-selling album of the 21st century by a Canadian artist. Since then, she has released successful albums such as "Under My Skin", "Goodbye Lullaby", "Head Above Water", "Avril Lavigne", "Love Sux", and "The Best Damn Thing". She is considered a highlight in the pop-punk and alternative rock scene. As an actress, Avril made her debut film "Going the Distance" in 2004. She had a cameo role in this film, as she sang a song titled “Losing Grip” from her debut album “Let Go”. She made her first TV appearance in 2002 in "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch". In 2007, Lavigne appeared in the 2007 film "The Flock". Avril Lavigne was born on September 27, 1984, to his father, Jean-Claude Joseph Lavigne, and his mother, Judith-Rosanne "Judy" Lavigne in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. Avril is 38th years old as of 2022. Avril Ramona Lavigne is the birth name of Avirl. She was named Avril (the French word for April) by her father. She holds Canadian nationality but she belongs to a mixed ethnical background race as her mum is of English, Scottish, and German descent and her dad is of French-Canadian origin. She has a younger sister, Michelle, and an older brother Matthew. When she was two years old, she sang "Jesus Loves Me" on the way home from church. When she was five, her family moved to Greater Napanee, Ontario. Her parents supported her singing from her childhood. Her father even bought her a microphone, a drum kit, a keyboard, and several guitars for her. Her dad turned their basement into a studio. Her parents used to take Lavigne to karaoke sessions at the age of 14. She wrote her first song, "Can't Stop Thinking About You". She is the sister-in-law of Japanese band One OK Rock bassist Ryota Kohama. 

Avril never enjoyed being in school. She was also kicked out sometimes for misbehaving. Lavigne, after the record deal signing, left school to focus on her music career.

  • It was in the year 1999 that Avril Lavigne won a radio contest to perform with the Canadian singer Shania Twain at the Corel Centre in Ottawa. Avril and Twain performed Twain's "What Made You Say That" in front of 20,000 people. 
  • During a performance with the Lennox Community Theatre, Lavigne was spotted by local folksinger Stephen Medd. She contributed her vocals on Medd's songs in "Touch the Sky" and for his 1999 album, "Quinte Spirit".
  • Later, she sang on "Temple of Life" and "Two Rivers" for his follow-up album, My Window to You, in 2000.

  • Her sixth studio album "Head Above Water" was released on February 15, 2019, through BMG.
