His brother, Siem de Jong is also a professional football player, currently playing for Heerenveen as an attacking midfielder or striker.

He previously played for DZC '68, De Graafschap, Twente, Borussia M'gladbach, Newcastle United and PSV before joining Sevilla in 2019.

He holds both Swiss and Dutch nationality.

Born in Switzerland, he represents Netherlands national team.
