Belgian cyclist, Bjorg Lambrecht was a cyclist, who rode for UCI WorldTeam Lotto-Soudal. He was also named as the star list for 2018 Vuelta an Espana and was second in the Ronde de I’Isard. There were emotional scenes during the Tour de Pologne's fourth stage as the cycling world paid tribute to Belgian rider Bjorg Lambrecht, who died following a crash in the race earlier this week. Fellow cyclists wore black arm-bands and observed a minute's silence at the start line on Tuesday as competitive racing was neutralized for the day. The race fell silent again as riders stopped at the same distance that the crash occurred the day before as spectators lined the route with banners commemorating the 22-year-old. The stage distance was also reduced by race organizers as Lambrecht's Lotto-Soudal teammates crossed the finish line together, ahead of the peloton. Lambrecht went pro in 2018 when he joined Lotto-Soudal and was considered up and coming talent in the cycling world. The Tour de Poland is a seven-day race that usually covers between 600 and 700 miles. It's part of the men's World Tour for cycling, which also includes the Tour de France.

The Belgian cyclist, Bjorg Lambrecht died on a crash during Stage 3 of the Tour of Poland on Monday, 5th August 2019. He was the 22-year-old cyclist, who was a second-year pro with Lotto-Soudal. The accident occurred during the heavy rainfall near the town of Zory. He collided with a concrete culvert around 48 kilometers into the race. Then, he was immediately checked by the race’s medical staff and reported for emergency resuscitation. According to AFP, race director Czeslaw Lang said that “It wasn’t a high-speed descent. It was a straight and wide road. He had a moment of hesitation, he left the asphalt, and the tragedy occurred”. He was also taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital in Rybnik. But, the Polish media reported, he died during surgery. PAP agency, Lang said that “The injuries were so serious that we called for a helicopter and an ambulance. He was transported to the hospital. His heart started beating again but he sadly died [during the operation]”
