News anchor Monica Malpass is leaving 6ABC’s Action News after 31 years with the top-ranked broadcast. She made the announcement during Wednesday’s 5 p.m. newscast, which she co-anchors with Rick Williams. But she doesn’t seem ready to step away from the news business, as a press release from 6ABC (WPVI) said the mother of three boys is “looking forward to exploring potential national and international opportunities” and assessing what’s best for her family and career. Malpass joined 6ABC in January 1988 as a reporter and anchor and has co-anchored the 5 p.m. newscast since 2003. She also hosted the Sunday morning political roundtable program Inside Story. No replacement was announced for Malpass at 5 p.m. A 6ABC spokesman said for the foreseeable future, the station will rotate anchors during that slot and was in "no rush" to anoint a replacement. Action News does have a deep bench, including 4 p.m. co-anchors Brian Taff, Sharrie Williams and Alicia Vitarelli and morning anchors Matt O’Donnell and Tamala Edwards.
