He is best known for his role as Dr. Spencer Reid in the television series "Criminal Minds" and has also appeared in films such as "(500) Days of Summer" and "How to Be a Serial Killer." Additionally, he has done voiceover work for various projects including "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and "Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur".

As a model, Matthew modeled for brands such as Marc Jacob and American Eagle while attending NYU Film School. He is also a painter and has sold his paintings for charity.
