Rabi Lamichhane is a Nepalese television presenter who set the world record for hosting the longest-ever television talk show broadcast on April 2013. He currently hosts a popular television show, Sidha Kura Janta Sangha, which "addresses the root causes of different problems inside the country". He is best known for his "detective-style" journalism and raising direct questions to Nepal's bureaucracy regarding the problems of their offices in various sectors.
Lamichhane, Kandel released on bail, Karki on a general date
The District Court, Chitwan granted release of television presenter Rabi Lamichhane, journalist Yuvaraj Kandel, and Asmita Karki also known as ‘Ruku’ today. After recording the statements of the trio, the bench of District Judge Hemanta Rawal granted the release of Lamichhane and Kandel on bail and Karki on a general date until the verdict is passed.
According to registrar Rudramani Giri at the district court, Lamichhane and Kandel were asked to produce cash, collateral or bank guarantee while Karki was released on a general date as per sections 68 and 69 respectively, of Muluki Criminal Code Act, 2017. Lamichhane was released on Rs 500,000 bail and Kandel on Rs 300,000. The registrar said they paid cash as deposits this evening. Lamichhane, Kandel, and Karki had been taken in police custody on August 15 from Kathmandu and brought to Chitwan for investigation after video footage recorded by Journalist Shalikram Pudasaini on his mobile phone accusing the trio of abetting him to commit suicide came out. Journalist Pudasaini was found hanging in a local hotel in Chitwan, on August 5.
Journalist Lamichhane says his priority is to continue doing his job well
Television presenter Rabi Lamichhane stated that he would continue doing his work as a media person bringing to light the plights of those in need. Journalist Lamichhane said this at a press meet organized in Bharatpur of Chitwan District, Tuesday morning, the day after he along with journalist Yuvaraj Kandel was released on bail and Asmita Karki ‘Ruku’ on general date.
When asked about his intention of joining politics, Lamichhane indicated that time could take him towards politics but it wasn’t something that he would pursue anytime soon, he had more to do in his own field. He stated that the door to politics for him has not been locked, only closed for now. He expressed his intention to work more responsibly in bringing out issues of the general public and making an effort to address them, by alerting the parties involved in irregularities. His first priority will be to make those in power responsible and accountable through his own work.
