She grew up with his father Jack Howard Yearwood a local banker and mother Gwendolyn who was a Schoolteacher and her two brothers Adam Thomas and Scott Thomas. She moved to Nashville, Tennessee attending Belmont college and pursued a music degree in 1985. She before had also received an associate degree in business from Young Harris College and then attended the University of Georgia for one semester before dropping out.
