Christian Yelich Will Miss The Remainder Of The Season After Fracturing His Knee
Milwaukee Brewers outfield5er and reigning National League Most Valuable Player Christian Yelich will miss the remainder of the season after fracturing his right knee cap. The injury happened in the first inning of Milwaukee’s 4-3 victory at Miami when Yelich fouled a ball off his right knee. He remained on the ground for several minutes as the Brewers' medical staff tended to him but eventually walked off the field under his own power before X-rays revealed the nature of the injury. The team said Yelich will return to Milwaukee Wednesday for further examination. “We feel awful for Christian,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. “He's a special player. He's the best at what he does. Not being able to see that every day is definitely no good, but we’ve got to respond.”
The injury is the latest and unquestionably biggest blow for a team trying to overcome a rash of late-season injuries to key players while also trying to crawl back into playoff contention. “We have a lot of guys in the clubhouse who will hurt tonight,” Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns said. “This is a gut punch for a night but we need to recover and play really strong baseball.”
