Oliver Alexander Thornton professionally known as Olly Alexander is a British musician, singer, songwriter, actor, and LGBTQ advocate. He is best known as the frontman of the band, Years & Years, which formed in 2010. The band has released two studio albums "Communion" (2015) and "Palo Santo" (2018) and numerous hit singles including "Real", "King", "Shine", "Eyes Shut", "If You're Over Me", and "Sanctify". Their most successful single King earned commercial success and peaked at number on the UK single Chart. He is also a promising actor and made his acting debut in 2008 in the film "Summerhill". Since then, Olly has performed in several acclaimed films, television series and theatre plays including "Bright Star"(2009), "The Aliens" (2010), "The Fades" ( 2010), "Cheerful Weather for the Weeding" (2012)," Mercury Fur" (2012), "Peter and Alice" (2013), "God Help the Girl" (2014), "Funny Bunny"(2015), "Growing Up Gay" (2017), "Celebrity Gogglebox" (2019). In January 2021, he appeared in a lead role in a television drama called It's a Sin which gained critical acclaim for him. The show represented gay life in the 1980s and early 1990. According to sources, he will be seen in the lead role in a future series of "Doctor Who".
As an LGBT activist, he has promoted anti-LGBT bullying initiatives and also safer sex and HIV screening. In June 2020, Queerty named him the first LGBTQ Pride parade among the 50 heroes "leading the nation toward equality, acceptance, and dignity for all people".
