Ryan was selected by New England in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

He served as the head football coach at White Hall High School in White Hall, Arkansas.

He participated in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in 2007 and won the Glenn Davis Army Award as the best player on the West team.

His father, Jim Mallett, was a former college football player and coach, and his mother, Debbie Mallett, was a teacher.
