Shah Rukh Khan known by the initialism, SRK, is an Indian actor, producer, and television personality who works in Bollywood Industry. He is also known as the "King of Bollywood", "Baadshah of Bollywood", and "King Khan". To date, he has acted in more than 80 movies and has received numerous awards including fifteen Filmfare Awards, seventeen Screen Awards, thirteen Zee Cine Awards, and six IIFA Awards. He has also received a number of honors such as Padma Shri by the Government of India, Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Government of France, Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka by the Government of Malaysia, and Global Diversity Award by the Government of the United Kingdom.

Early Life, Religion & Parents

Shah Rukh Khan was born on 2nd November 1965 into a Muslim family in New Delhi, India. However, he spent the first five years of his childhood in Mangalore, where his maternal grandfather, Iftikhar Ahmed, served as the port's chief engineer in the 1960s. His birth name is Shahrukh Khan. He is the son of his father, Mir Taj Mohammed Khan who was an Indian freedom fighter who hailed from Peshawar, and his mother Lateef Fatima Khan. King Khan also has an elder sister named Shehnaz Lalarukh. Sadly, he lost his father in 1981 and his mother in 1991. After the death of their parents, his sister fell into a depressed state. So along with his sister, he moved to Mumbai to begin his acting career.   

Moreover, King Khan holds Indian nationality and belongs to Pashtun (Pathan) ethnicity. His religious belief is in Sunni Islam.

Talking about his educational background, Khan attended St.Columba's School in central Delhi. Later on, he joined Hansraj College to earn his bachelor's degree in economics but he spent most of that time in Delhi's Theatre Action Group (TAG), where he learned acting under the guidance of theatre director Barry John. Thereafter, he enrolled in Jamia Millia Islamia's Master's program in Mass communication but he dropped out to focus on his acting career. He also went to Delhi's National School of Drama at the beginning of his acting career.

  • Shah Rukh Khan began his professional acting career in the late 1980s, appearing in a number of television series such as Dil Dariya, Fauji, Circus, Idiot, and Wagle Ki Duniya.
  • Khan made his Bollywood debut in 1992 with the film Deewana. Following this, he appeared in films like Chamatkar (1992), Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (1992), Dil Aashna Hai (1992), Maya Memsaab (1993), Pehla Nasha (1993), and King Uncle (1993).
  • In his initial days, he was known for portraying villainous roles in the films like Baazigar (1993), Darr (1993), and Anjaam (1994).
  • However, he gained popularity after appearing in a series of romantic films, including Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Mohabbatein (2000), Kabhi Khusi Kabhie Gham (2001), Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam (2002), Devdas (2002), Saathiya (2002), Chalte Chalte (2003) and Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003).

  • In 2010, he plays Rizwan Khan in the social drama film, My Name Is Khan, which is based on a true story and set against the backdrop of perceptions of Islam after the "11 September attacks".
  • The following year, he appeared in four films such as Always Kabhi Kabhi, Love Breakups Zindagi, and Ra. One, and Don 2.
  • His only release in 2012 was the romantic drama, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, alongside Katrina Kaif and Anuska Sharma.
  • Afterward, he starred in some highest-grossing films like Chennai Express (2013), Happy New Year (2014), and Dilwale (2015). 
  • However, his subsequent films including Fan (2016), Raees (2017), Jab Harry Met Sejal (2017), and Zero (2018), received negative reviews as well as poor box office performance.
  • In 2022, he made three cameo appearances in the films like Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, Laal Singh Chaddha, and Brahmastra: Part One-Shiva.
  • Further, King Khan took a four-year pause from acting after the release of Zero, which was partly influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic in India. Additionally, he will appear in three movies in 2023, such as Pathaan, Jawan, and Rajkumar Hirani's Dunki.

Shah Rukh Khan's Wife, Son, and Daughter

King Khan is a married man. He married Gauri Chibber, a Punjabi Hindu, in a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony on October 25, 1991, after a six-year courtship. The couple has three children, a daughter named Suhana Khan (born in 2000) and two sons Aryan Khan (born in 1997) and AbRam Khan (born in 2013). Their third child, AbRam was born through a surrogate mother. Even though SRK is a devout Muslim, he respects his wife's faith as well. His children practice both religions, and in his home, there is a Hindu deity murti right next to the Quran.

Currently, the Khan family resides in Mannat bungalow, west Bandra, Mumbai Maharashtra.
