Takehiro Tomiyasu is a Japanese professional football player who plays for Premier League club Arsenal and the Japan national team as a center-back or right-back. He started playing football for the youth team of Avispa Fukuoka in 2009 and began his career at the club. During his time at Avispa Fukuoka’s youth system, he had a period as a captain there. He was impressed at the 2013’s JFA Premier Cup and was named in the Best Eleven. As a result, following his impressive performances, in May 2015, it was announced that Avispa Fukuoka had registered him in their senior team. He made his senior team debut for the club on 14 October 2015 in the third round of the Emperor’s Cup. After playing two seasons at Avispa Fukuoka, on 16 January 2018, he joined Belgian First Division A side Sint-Truiden, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract with the club, keeping him until 2021. He made his debut for the club on 12 May 2018. During his career at Sint-Truiden, he went on to make 41 appearances and scored once in all the competitions as he won the club's Player of the Year in his second season. On 9 July 2019, he signed for Bologna for a fee of €9 million deal and becomes the second Japanese player to join the club after Hidetoshi Nakata. He went on to play two seasons at the club and made 64 appearances for the club, scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assists in all the competitions. On 31 August 2021, he joined Arsenal on a four-year deal, with an option for a fifth for a fee of around £17 million (€20m). He made his debut for the club on 11 September 2021. Later on, for his impressive performances, he was named Arsenal's Player of the Month for September 2021, with 51% of the vote. 


On the international level, Tomiyasu has represented Japan at various age levels. He has represented Japan at U16, U18, U19, U20, U23, and the senior level. He was part of the Japan U19 squad that won the 2016 AFC U19 Championship. He made his international team debut for Japan on 12 October 2018. He has represented Japan at the 2019 AFC Asian Cup and Copa America 2019. In June 2021, he was named in the Japan squad for his first Olympic tournament, this time on home soil.
