About Andrés Guardado

José Andrés Guardado Hernández is a Mexican professional football player who plays for La Liga club Real Betis and captains the Mexico national team as a defensive midfielder. He started playing football for the youth team of Atlas in 1993 and began his career at the club. In 2007, he officially signed for the Spanish team Deportivo where he spent five seasons. In 2012, he joined another team in Spain, Valencia, with brief loan stints at Bayern Leverkusen and PSV, before permanently joining the latter club in 2015 and winning two Eredivisie titles. He then returned to Spain two years later with Real Betis where he has since gone on to make over 160 appearances for the club in all the competitions. 


On the international level, Guardado has represented Mexico at various age levels. He has represented Mexico at the senior level. He made his senior international team debut for Mexico on 14 December 2005. He has represented Mexico in four Worlds Cups (2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018), four Golden Cups-winning 2011, 2015, and 2019 tournaments-two Copa Americas (2006 and 2016), and two Confederations Cups (2013 and 2017). Since his debut, he is currently the second most-capped player in the history of the Mexico national team with 175 appearances.
