Conor McGregor releases the statement following Miami arrest

MMA fighter Conor McGregor was arrested in South Florida. Authorities say mixed martial artist and boxer Conor McGregor has been arrested in South Florida for stealing the cellphone of someone who was trying to take his photo. According to a Miami Beach police report, the 30-year-old McGregor was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with robbery and criminal mischief. It was said that McGregor was leaving the Fontainebleau Miami Beach shortly after 5 a.m. Monday when a 22-year-old man attempted to take a picture of McGregor. Police say McGregor slapped the phone out of the man’s hand and then stomped on it several times. Investigators say McGregor then grabbed the phone and left the area. Police later found McGregor at his local address.  He was being held on $12,500 bail. Following an incident Monday (11th March 2019) morning in which he was taken into custody for damaging a man’s phone (and taking it along with him) after celebrating his mother’s birthday, the 30-year-old fighter was released from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after posting a $12,500 bond, and his attorney has pledged full cooperation in the case. For now, the legal process begins to move in a manner that makes his immediate fighting plans uncertain. If the case is to be resolved quickly (and for his sake, quietly), we won’t have to wait as long to find where he goes next in his career. For now, these matters are out of his hands and outside of the UFC’s control until the legal process sorts this out.
