Junya Ito is a Japanese professional football player who plays for Genk and the Japan national team as a right-winger. He started playing football at an early age. After attending Kanagawa University for four years, he first became a Special Designated Player for Ventforet Kofu and then obtained a new contract with the J1 League side. At Ventforet Kofu, he went on to make 30 appearances and scored 4 goals in all the competitions. His first season as a professional player attracted attention from Kashiwa Reysol. The Chiba club signed him in January 2016 and he went on to play four seasons at the club. During his career at Kashiwa Reysol, he was loaned out to Genk for the 2019-20 season. Following his impressive performances during his loan spell, on 1 July 2020, Genk permanently signed him from Kashiwa Reysol for an undisclosed fee and went on to win the Belgian First Division in 2018-19, the Belgian Super Cup in 2019, and the Belgian Cup in 2020-21.
On the international level, Ito has represented Japan at various age levels. He has represented Japan at the senior level. He made his senior international team debut for Japan on 9 December 2017. He was part of the Japan squad that reached the final of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. Since his debut, he has obtained over 35 caps and scored over 5 goals for Japan.
