A former professional Canadian footballer, Owen Lee Hargreaves is professionally known as Owen Hargreaves. He is famous for being a hard-working and "solid defensive midfielder who worked tirelessly to win the ball" and provide his teammates with possession. He is also well recognized for playing as a midfielder with Calgary Foothills as a youth before beginning his professional football career in Germany with Bayern Munich. Hargreaves made his Manchester United debut in a friendly against Peterborough United on 4th August 2007, coming on as a second-half substitute in United's 3-1 victory. He made his City debut against Birmingham City in the League Cup and opened the scoring in a 2-0 victory with a goal in the 17th minute. In 2011, Manchester United did not renew his contract due to his injury troubles. He was also set to make his debut for the Wales U21 team against the Belarus U21 team in September 2000 but pulled out of the squad after he was approached by England. ESPN ranked his transfer to Manchester United as the 27th worst Premier League transfer of all time in 2020. Early Life 

On 20th January 1981, Owen Hargreaves took birth with the real name of Owen Lee Hargreaves under the star sign of Aquarius. He stepped for the very first time in Calgary, Alberta, Canada holding Canadian nationality and he belongs to mixed ethnicity as his mother is Welsh and his father is English. Hargreaves is the son of his mother, Margaret Hargreaves, and his father, Colin Hargreaves, who had emigrated from the United Kingdom at the start of the 1980s. Career

  • Owen Hargreaves moved at the age of 16 from Calgary Foothills to Bayern Munich on 1st July 1997 whereas he played in his first Bundesliga match against Hertha Berlin on 12th August 2000. His first start came against SpVgg Unterhaching on 16th September 2000.
  • It was announced on 31st May 2007 that Hargreaves would join Manchester United on 1st July 2007 as he made his first Premier League appearance in Manchester United's third game of the season, in the derby match away to Manchester City in a 1-0 defeat. He scored his second league goal for the club on 13th April, a free-kick winner against Arsenal. His contract expired at the end of the 2010-2011 season and he left the club, despite offering to play the 2011-2012 season for free.
  • Manchester City confirmed on 31st August 2011 that they had signed Hargreaves on a one-year deal however, it was confirmed on 27th April 2012 that he would be released at the end of the season after just four appearances for the club.
  • Hargreaves played his first full international game on 15th August 2001 against the Netherlands at White Hart Lane.
  • On 30th January 2007, he was voted England Player of the Year 2006, as voted for by visitors to the Official FA site. As well, FIFA announced in June 2007 that Hargreaves and Philipp Lahm would visit South Africa in advance support for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Personal Life 

Away from the field, the Canadian-born Owen Hargreaves likes to keep his personal life private. Throughout the 2000s after establishing himself at Bayern Munich, Hargreaves was in a relationship with fellow football star Janelle Khouri. Khouri formerly played for the Canadian women's national team and the pair were reportedly engaged before splitting up over a decade ago. She met Hargreaves while on a football scholarship to the University of Massachusetts. The pair have reportedly split up though and currently, it is not known if Hargreaves is dating anyone. Whereas he has not wife. Concerning his sexual orientation, he is straight.
