Sandeep Lamichhane Is Not Having Best Overs in IPL

Delhi Capitals won over Royal Challengers Banglore by 4 wickets. But, the young Nepalese star, Sandeep Lamichhane did not have the best bowling figures against the RCB on Sunday. He was hit for 1-46, by far the worst bowling figures among the six DC bowlers.  

Sandeep was omitted in the team's first two games but has been in the lineup following games. He had 1-29 against the Kolkata Knight Riders, 2-27 against the Kings XI Punjab, whereas he had 1-32 against the Sunrise Hyderabad. Despite having average performances in the previous matches, he has had poor one on Sunday.

Thanks to South African Kagiso Rabada, who stepped forward and took 4 wickets packing up the RCB 149-8. Rabada was named the man of the match.

Where was Sandeep Lamichhane Born?

Sandeep Lamichhane was born on 2 August 2000. He wants to a father, Chandra Narayan Lamichhane, and a mother, Kopila Devi Lamichhane. His birth place is in Aruchaur, Syangja in Nepal. He holds Nepalese nationality. He belongs to Hindu religion. He also has 2 siblings, a brother named Mohan Lamichhane and a sister named Indu Lamichhane Neupane. 

He grew up playing cricket at his hometown. He idolizes Indian legend cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Australian Shane Warne as his inspiration. He moved to Chitwan and started training at Chitwan Cricket Academy. Nepalese cricket team captain, Paras Khadka and former coach Pubudu Dasnayake visited the academy. They told the young kid to bowl in the nets. Impressed by his bowling abilities, he was selected for the national U19 training camp. 

Career

He made his List A debut in the 2015-17 ICC World Cricket League Championship against Namibia in April 2016.

In the second match of 2016 U19 Cricket World Cup, he became the 5th bowler in the U-19 world cup history to take a hat-trick taking the wickets of Lorcan Tucker, Adam Dennison, and Flachra Tucker of Ireland. He was named the man of the match with figures of 5/27.

He finished the U19 Cricket World Cup as second highest wicket taker with 14 wickets.

Australian captain, Michael Clarke offered Lamichhane to join the Sydney-based Western Suburbs Districts Cricket Club in September 2016.

He took bowling figures of 5/8 for Nepal against Malaysia in the 2017 ACC U19 Asia Cup. He was named the man of the match. 

In January 2018, he was listed for auction in the 2018 IPL.

Delhi Daredevil (now Delhi Capitals) selected him making him the first Nepalese to get a contract in the IPL. He signed a 20 lakhs contract with the club.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi commented that the relationship between India and Nepal had been strengthened after Sandeep's signing.  

He ended his debut IPL season with 5 wickets for 82 runs in 12 overs playing 3 matches.

He was drafted by St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to play in Caribbean Premier League for $5k in March 2018.

He was selected by Canadian club Montreal Tigers in June 2018 to play in the inaugural edition of the Global T20 Canada tournament. He took 8 wickets in 5 matches at an average of 19.62. 

Afghani club Nangarhar signed him in September 2018 to play in their first edition of Afghanistan Premier League.

Australian club Melbourne Stars signed him in October 2018 for the BBL (Big Bash League). He would become the first Nepali professional cricket player to play in BBL.

In October 2018, he was also drafted by Sylhet Sixers for the 2018-19 Bangladesh Premier League.

He later played for Lahore Qalandars in the fourth edition of the Pakistan Super League in November 2018.

He was once again selected by Delhi Capitals to play in the IPL 2019.

International Career

Sandeep Lamichhane was named ICC World Cricket League Division Two Player of the tournament. He took a total of 17 wickets in six fixtures in the tournament including 5 against Kenya.

ICC named Lamichhane as one of the ten players to watch ahead of 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier. He was later named as the rising star at the end of Nepal's squad.

He made his T20I debut for the ICC Rest of the World XI team against the West Indies in May 2018.

Nepal achieved ODI status during the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in February. He was named in Nepal's squad for their ODI series against the Netherlands. 

Lamichhane made his ODI debut for Nepal in their first ever ODI match against the Netherlands in August 2018.

Lamichhane took 24 wickets in six matches at the 2018-19 ICC World Twenty20 Asia Qualifier tournament in October 2018.
