Rio Ferdinand is an English former professional footballer who is famous for playing as a center-back. Today, he is a television pundit for BT Sport. He was a longtime player of Manchester United, playing with the team from 2002-2014. He is also known as one of the most decorated English footballers of all time.

Rio kicks off his football career playing for various youth teams, finally settling at West Ham United where he progressed through the youth ranks and made his professional Premier League debut in 1996. He earned 81 caps for the English national team between 1997 and 2011 and played in three World Cups. He made his senior team debut on 5th May 1996 whereas he made his debut appearance as a television presenter on the day of the England national team's opening World Cup group match against Paraguay in June 2006. Moreover, he also announced that he was launching a career to become a professional boxer in September 2017.

He was born to a mixed ethnic background family as he is of African-Saint Lucian descent on his father's side and Irish descent on his mother's side. Rio's real name is Rio Gavin Ferdinand and his race is white. He celebrated his 42nd birthday as of 2020. His religion is Christian and his Zodiac sign is Scorpio.
Rio Ferdinand was born to an Irish mother, Janice Lavender, and an Afro-20Saint Lucian father, Julian Ferdinand. About his siblings, he has one brother and three sisters on his father's side and a brother and sister from his mother's remarriage. Whereas, his younger brother, Anton Ferdinand plays as a defender.
Talking about Rio's education, he attended Camelot Primary School whereas he later chose to attend Blackheath Bluecoat School to make new friends and settled in well, feeling his confidence growing. Also, at age 11, he won a scholarship to attend the Central School of Ballet in London.

Rio Ferdinand married his pretty wife, Kate Wright on 27th September 2019. The couple announced in June 2020 that they are expecting their first child together, the child. Their son was then born on 18th December 2020. Furthermore, Rio's sexual orientation is straight.

Previously, Rio was married to Rebecca Ellison in 2009 with whom he was blessed firstly blessed with a son. The couple had two more children. Sadly, Ellison died of breast cancer on 2nd May 2015, aged 34.
Ferdinand was banned from driving for 6 months after he admitted speeding on the A27 at Hangleton in Hove in August 2020.
